Collection: All Foils

Transfer foil is a thin layer of metallic or printed film on a clear carrier sheet. Brush on adhesive, let it get tacky, press the foil down, and peel: the design stays on your surface.

Foil works on furniture, cabinets, walls, signs, pots, hats, shoes, and purses, and many designs work on fabric too. Each product page lists a recommended base coat and whether that foil works on fabric. New to foiling? All Things Foil has Jenn's free tutorials.

Transfer foil FAQ

How wide is the foil, and how much can I order?

Most foil is 12 inches wide. Order a 12 × 12-inch piece by the foot, or a 12-inch roll of 3, 15, or 100 feet. Some designs also come in 24-inch rolls from 25 to 200 feet. Each product page lists its sizes.

How does "by the foot" work?

Each foot is a 12 × 12-inch piece, and the quantity sets the length. Order 2 and you get one 2-foot piece, not two separate squares.

Which adhesive do I need for wood versus fabric?

For wood, furniture, walls, hats, shoes, and purses, use Foil Adhesive. Apply one coat and wait for a firm tack, about 1–2 hours, or up to 24 when it's humid. For clothing and other fabric, use FABRIC Foil Adhesive with an iron at 300–325°F, and pick a foil marked "Works on fabric," or browse Textile Foils. Wash foiled clothing cold, inside out, and line dry. Slick surfaces like hard plastic need a primer first.

What do transparent and semi-transparent mean?

A transparent foil has a clear background, so your base coat shows everywhere the design isn't. A semi-transparent foil lets some base color glow through the pattern. Even solid foil transfers about 90–95%, so pick a base coat you like peeking through. Each product page suggests one.

Are the foils labeled?

Every roll has a sticker with the foil's name, and rolls of 15 feet and longer show the length too. By-the-foot pieces are cut to order from the roll and aren't individually labeled, so if you order several designs, keep your packing slip with them and match each piece to its product photo.
